If you had to guess what the most popular names were in the late 1800’s, you may be dreaming of out-of-date names like Virgil and Elmer, or Eula and Blanche. While each certainly among the 200 most popular names in the late 19th century, they are not anywhere near the top of the list.

In fact, most of the top five names for boys and girls is the one who remains quite popular today. Surprised? So we are here 24/7 Wall St.

Outside the top five, many male names were popular in the 1800s still common today while many of the women’s names are long gone. In order to secure a place on this list, the names of the following shall fall within the top 16 most popular names for boys and the top 17 for girls, based on how many times the name of it happening.
