Coronavirus test data has been spotty and not easily available, especially in the United States. Based on official government sources, here’s how the test effort in the United States compared with those in Italy and South Korea.

The United States has set back the nation’s response to the pandemic, even though the first case was found around the same time that South Korea is. But part of the problem in the United States also has the gap created by the way the state and federal agencies to report data.

An, called Tracking Project COVID, try to give a more complete picture of the testing in the United States. According to the tracker – which collects information directly from the state health department, local news reports and news conferences live – at least 41,000 people have been tested in the United States, much higher than C.D.C. official figures.

It has been hard to track down a reliable test data in the United States for a number of reasons. Data from the Centers for Disease Control, which is now a few days, reported the number of specimens tested, not the number of people – some specimens can be tested from each person. And some countries only report positive results, not negative, so it is difficult to know the number tested.

COVID Data Tracking Project, however, lays bare how behind the United States has been in response to a pandemic, which by Monday night have been around the world, according to official reports.

The data showed recently that about 125 people per million have been tested in the United States – far less than most other countries where data is available.

Through intensive testing and monitoring, South Korea has succeeded in slowing the growth of new cases. Health officials there keep track of people with signs and even set up a drive-through testing, that allows at least 10,000 people to be tested per day. government websites and mobile applications disclosed how many people have been tested, and where.

Italy also has been aggressively tested for the virus, which may help explain why the number of confirmed cases is higher than any other country in Europe. Health officials in Lombardy – Italy worst hit areas – initially on those who are ill and those who come into contact with an infected person, even if they have no symptoms.

Until now, testing in the United States has done manually, by individual laboratories perform tests only 40 to 60 days. Testing has ramped up in recent days – on Monday, Project Tracking count COVID tests reportedly rose 13,000, showing a surge test of the nation.

Also on Monday, they were moving forward with plans to establish more drive-through testing centers around the country and to expedite the processing of tests by commercial laboratories. At the end of this week, officials said that the 1.9 million tests should be available.

Note :. Data for confirmed cases began on January 22. Testing of data collected from national health authorities of each country
