The measures were approved at a cabinet meeting in which all participants wore a face mask and sit 1 meter (3 feet) apart, as recommended by the experts.

Plans to postpone Songkran – the traditional three-day annual holiday New Year in April – is one of a number of measures to prevent the collection and movement of large numbers of people. Speaking at a press conference after a weekly cabinet meeting, Prayuth said Thailand remains open to foreign visitors, despite the strict conditions apply to people who arrive from six places designated by the government as a zone of disease infected: China, Hong Kong, Macau, South Korea , Iran and Italy.

Immigrants from these areas must have a health certificate issued no more than three days before going up along with health insurance, and must download a mobile application developed by the government to track them and their health in Thailand.

Under the plan apparently not been implemented, they will also be asked to self-isolate for 14 days after arrival.

Officials have been talking to apply the same rule to people who come from any country with ongoing transmission of the virus locally, but has not clarified when or how that will be implemented. They had previously indicated that the rules can be applied to the United States, Japan and some European countries.
