A new coronavirus, called SARS-CoV-2 has spread to all continents except Antarctica, with the first US case involving a 35-year-old man who had traveled to Wuhan, China, before returning to Washington State. With the West Virginia reported the first case on Tuesday (March 17th), the virus has now hit all 50 US states. About 7769 people in the US have been confirmed to have the virus, although many other cases may not be detected. Of the cases reported, 118 people were killed: Washington (55 deaths), New York (16 deaths), California (13 deaths), Florida (7 deaths), Georgia (3 deaths) Louisiana (4 deaths), New Jersey ( 3 deaths), Texas (3 deaths), two deaths each in Colorado, Indiana, Oregon and Virginia, and one death each in Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Nevada, South Carolina and South Dakota. Nursing homes and hospitals forbid visitors, to protect the most vulnerable to COVID-19. Airports were in chaos after the enhanced screening measures for those returning from Europe into effect. More than 30 countries have closed all public schools for weeks. Hospitals are preparing for tsunami patients, canceling elective procedures, repurposing their facilities for patients coronavirus, and add an extra bed. And the specter of COVID-19 finally reaches the White House; President Donald Trump was tested after he made contact with a confirmed positive cases. He tested negative

Final Friday (13 March), Congress passed a bill intended to help those who have been exposed to coronavirus. expands access to free testing, expanded sick leave for those who are most vulnerable, and to provide food aid. Trump also declared a national emergency. And on Tuesday (17 March) Trump said he asked for $ 850 billion in emergency stimulus help slow the economic free fall due to a coronavirus ,.

On Monday (16 March), Trump recommends that people work from home, stay out of the school, avoid restaurants, bars and avoid all the gathering of more than 10 people, although he continued to brief enforce it. The President also has suspended all trips from Europe to the US for the next 30 days.

Although there are nearly 5,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the US, the actual number of cases could be higher. On March 13 Trevor Bedford, a computational biologist at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, it is estimated there are between the United States, and it would be now. (That number is based on rough estimates and have not gone through peer review.)

, as more people in areas highly affected by the virus (such as the Pacific Northwest) reported what it called influenza- like illness (Ilis ), or cases that include a fever over 100 degrees Fahrenheit (37.8 degrees Celsius), apart from a cough or sore throat. Because individuals tested negative for influenza, they could instead have COVID-19, a disease caused by a new coronavirus, Live Science reported March 15.

Although President Trump said March 7 that “anyone who wants to test to get a test,” meaning the United States limited testing capacity in practice, only a fraction of people who have symptoms are being tested. Alex M. Azar II, secretary of Health and Human Services, explained that a doctor or other medical professional must first agree to the testing ,.

Adm. Brett P. Giroir, assistant secretary for health at the Department of Health and Human Services, said at a White House briefing on Monday (16 March) that the 1.9 million COVID-19 tests will be available at the end of the week. Giroir said the amount that would be achieved, in part, as the engine speed at 2,000 private lab came online. The machines can run multiple samples at once ,.

On March 14, 84 state and local public health laboratories in 50 states and the District of Columbia have worked COVID-19 diagnostic test,. On Monday afternoon (16 March), CDC and public laboratories in the US have tested 25 162 specimens; which is not the same as the number of individuals tested, as the laboratory can run two tests per person to confirm the infection.

However, on Friday, Deborah Birx, president of the coronavirus task force member, said that the US has granted emergency authorization for Roche to relinquish ownership of its tests automatically, which should quickly increase the ability to perform testing.

Meanwhile, other headwinds facing efforts to increase testing. Lab director was worried that they might run out of swabs, RNA extraction reagents and kits needed for mass testing ,. Because many countries struggle cases in their countries, competition for those supplies have increased.

States vary in their current test capabilities. For example, while California can test about 7,400 people per day, Washington can test 1,000 and Oregon can test only 40, according to an analysis by The Atlantic. On March 10 the US has tested several thousand people. That compared with countries such as South Korea, which is testing about 10,000 people per day.

Emergency Two (ER) physicians have tested positive for COVID-19 and was in critical condition, Dr. William Jaquis, president of the American College of Emergency Physicians announced on Saturday (14 March). One of them was a man in his 40s in Washington state; Another is a 70-year-old doctor, James Pruden, in Paterson, New Jersey, who led the emergency preparedness plan at the University Medical Center St. Joseph.

“I am very saddened by this news, but not surprised,” wrote Jaquis in a statement. “As emergency physicians, we know the risks of our call. We stand united with our colleagues and our thoughts and prayers for a full and quick recovery are with each of them and their families.”

Since no transmission of the wider community in Washington, it is not clear if the man infected in the emergency room, or outside of it. He was wearing the proper personal protective equipment at all times, to the statement.

The New Jersey doctor down with respiratory symptoms a few days ago, and now in an isolation unit in the ICU.

This is not the first time that doctors, nurses and health workers on the front lines have been infected with COVID-19. A health worker in Solano County, California, tested positive for the virus after the patient hospitalized there ,. He did not tested for several days, and more than 200 people who had contact with were quarantined. Some health workers in the Seattle area are now infected COVID-19 ,.

And the frontline medical providers across the US are bracing for coronavirus middle cascade rapidly changing guidelines on how to protect themselves and treat patient ,.

Hospital transmission is a growing concern for doctors and nurses face a shortage of masks ,. On Tuesday (9 March), the CDC released guidance saying that loose fitting, thinner, surgical masks, instead of N95 respirators – filtering 95% of airborne particles larger than 5 microns – will be enough for many doctors and nurses caring for patients with coronavirus new. guidance is intended to protect the N95 respirator. National Strategic Stockpile, intended to deliver supplies in an emergency, containing only 1% of the required 3.5 billion mask N95 that could be needed for health care workers ,.

Health care workers are at high risk of infection; a study published 13 Mar in the journal found that 20% of front-line health workers in northern Italy have been infected COVID-19. And as, a study from China found that N95 respirators are more effective than a surgical mask to protect health workers from COVID-19. The study, which was published to preprint database, not through peer review.

Across the country, the new coronavirus has changed our daily lives. On Tuesday (17 March) all public schools closed in 32 countries; some, such as in the state of Washington, closed for at least six weeks, while others closed their doors for two weeks. The three largest school district in the country – New York City, Los Angeles and Chicago City Unified – has closed schools K-12 of them.

And the changes may take a while, though the impact on the virus’ spread is still unclear. On Friday (13 March), the school closure; schools may need to be closed for 8 to 20 weeks to have an impact on the course of the disease. short closure may not have an impact, the CDC said, and local levels that have closed schools, such as Hong Kong, have not managed to arrest better than the places that have made them open, like Singapore.

In New York, a Broadway show is canceled and the Metropolitan Museum of Art closed the door. Washington, which has the highest number of cases in the US, Governor Jay Inslee banned gathering of more than 250 people. In California and Florida, Disneyland and Disney World closed temporarily. In San Francisco, libraries and rec centers have been closed and are being repurposed as emergency child care centers for front line health care workers ,.
