Summary

INTRODUCTION

MATERIALS AND METHODS

the study population. A prospective, descriptive and cross-sectional study conducted during 1998 and 1999, home visit in the southern periphery and west of the city of Merida, Yucatan, to identify those with the following characteristics: the presence of healthy animals in the housing and / or in the backyard , shortage of drinking water and sanitation services, poor hygiene conditions, promiscuity and overcrowding (the presence of more than three people who use the same room for sleeping). subgroup assignment and serotype G and P performed directly from stool using ELISA with a monoclonal antibody that donated by Dr. Koki Taniguchi who (Fujita Health University, Toyoake, Japan). The following antibodies are used: S237 and I-5 subgroup I and II respectively; KU4, S22G10, YOIE2, ST2G7 for the serotypes G1, G2, G3 and G4 and IYO2C2 and S2-2F2 P1A and P1B to serotypes.

As a positive control reference strains used RV: W161 SA11 and for sub-groups I and II and for G1, G2, G3 and G4 serotypes WA, G2S2 used. SA11 and human stool samples (801) and is classified as G4; SA11 and G2S2 for serotype P1A and P1B.

A short methodology is as follows: immunoplates (Nunc, Denmark) coated with different monoclonal for 24 hours at 4 ° C; They then BLOCKED with bovine serum albumin (BSA) to 1% in phosphate buffer (PBS) for 24 hours at the same temperature. RESULTS

Learning 500 houses 3773 stool samples derived from healthy animals following was collected: 51 horses, 62 sheep, 243 pigs 28 birds, roosters 1257, 172 cats, 29 birds, 384 ducks, 669 turkeys, 416 dogs, 331 chickens, 45 cows, 6 foxes, 20 goats, 30 geese and 30 rabbits.

20 housing (4%) of the infected RV, 18 (90%) were infected with the virus and 2 (10%) had a mixed infection of animals found.

20 positive samples in 8 different combinations of serotypes and subgroups () were detected. The species with the highest prevalence of RSV infection are pigs with 3.3%.

As a subgroup SGII, SGI / II, SG NOI / II, dominated the latter in 75% of samples ().

G four common serotypes detected G1-4, G3 was dominated at 50% of the samples in 35% of G1, G2 at 15%, 10% and G4 are found, and only in mixed infections ().

Only six samples (30%) reacted with the monoclonal antibody for serotype P, 5 (25%) is P1A and (5%) P1B ().

Discussion

the role of the RV as a cause of acute diarrhea transmitted in several animal species have been documented, however, report on animals healthy rare and isolated, without considering the possible relationship with human infection (;;;;).

This is the first work that deals with the study of the RV on healthy animals living closely with humans in a state favorable for interspecies transmission. In our study, we found that 4% of the houses are infected with strains of animal RV.

Among the species affected are birds, dogs and cats, who every day live both outside and inside the house, the infected animals other a couple of pigs and cattle, which did not enter the house but free to roam the backyard.

A common denominator of the home study is the lack of health care, so the population refers not covered courtyard space to deposit their droppings, in which the animals have access to the feces, so ingest daily.

Another feature is the presence of animal feces scattered inside and outside the home.

In this context humans are continually exposed to fecal contamination of various animal species.

In the last decade, many studies have been conducted where isolated from human marked, becomes a high homology with the type of animal. However, not been able to demonstrate the natural transmission of interspecies RV, despite the presence of risk factors ().

Our results showed antigenic diversity between RV strains were isolated in 20 samples of eight combinations of different serotypes and subgroups found.

In our study, we found 12 strains of RV antigen alone animals, however, it is important to note that G3, SG no I- / II, the strain was detected in four pigs, a dog and a bull, initially they reported in horses (). Search strains in different species was originally reported to us indicates that the species is not especific.

Three strains G2, SG no I / II found in Turkey and two pigs, the virus could be a result of the rearrangement between RV strains of human and animal, because the G2 serotype does not circulate in animals, but SG no I / II predominates in it ().

25% of RV strain is detected, the confrecuencia presented antigenic characteristics reported in humans, as is the case of G3, SG II strain; G1, P1A, SG II; G1, P1B, SG II; G1, G4, P1A, SGI / II (;). This forces us to think about the possibility of RV strains circulating among humans and animals.

The two samples from cat feces showed a mixed infection. This co-infection can come from two strains of human origin (G1, G4, P1A, SG I / II), or a strain of human origin and animal origin (G3, G4, not I / II).

The results of our study indicate that pets are asymptomatic, it can act as a reservoir of infection by RV, maintaining the circulation of this virus among the annual outbreak. In order to confirm this is necessary epidemiological and molecular studies of the strains of animals and humans throughout the course of the year, so as to establish precisely homology and transmission dynamics.
